he profiles that follow on the next several pages continue a long-recognized industry
tradition -one that, for us, starts unfolding each January: preparing to select our next Plan
Sponsors of the Year.
We typically observe a depth of caring for the participants when we review the hundreds of nominations
and entries we receive each fall, but never like this year, as these sponsors, like the rest of us,
were in the throes of the pandemic, and we were inspired by their efforts to keep their people served.
All of this year's 25 finalists were profiled on PLANSPONSOR.com-and here, we present
profiles of the winners; more comprehensive write-ups appear online. The panel of judges-all
members of our editorial team-truly struggled to pick just one winner from each category, as
every finalist was extraordinary in its own right.
This year, we gave awards in nine categories, to allow for the most accurate comparisons across
plan types and sizes. Each winner was able to achieve high metrics based on the specifics of its industry,
demographics and plan type. We compared each nominee with the others in its category, while also
factoring in the unique challenges the sponsor faced due to its industry or individual workforce.
The categories this year are: Public Defined Contribution (DC); six segments of Corporate
401(k); Nonprofit DC; and Total Retirement Offering. The winners were honored at the 2021 Virtual
PLANSPONSOR National Conference.
Each plan sponsor has a unique story, and all share a common passion and goal: to make their
plan the most beneficial and engaging one it can be for the particular group of people they employ,
to help them achieve financial security for retirement.
